This is my very first blog post! I recently got a MacBook Pro and I wanted to do a review on it. I’ve only had it for a short time, so I’m still getting used to it but I already like it a lot! It comes with Voiceover built into the operating system just like the iOS devices do. VoiceOver is the screen reader built into all Mac and iOS devices since 2009. Actually, the Mac had VoiceOver before the iPhone or iPad ever did. I already knew how to turn on VO so when I got the computer out of the box, I turned it on by hitting the command key and the f5 key. The command keys are the keys directly to the left and right of the space bar. It’s really nice that this is a universal command to turn VoiceOver on any Mac computer! Once you have VO turned on, you have the option of taking a short tutorial to familiarize yourself with keys on the keyboard and different VoiceOver commands and gestures. One thing I like is that a lot of the same gestures I am used to using on my iPhone are the same on the computer. I also really enjoy the voice that the Mac uses. It’s called Alex, and it’s a really high quality voice. I hear it’s going to be coming to iOS in the fall. I’m really excited about that. When I got the computer it came installed with an older version of the operating system called Lion. I was able to download and install the current version called Mavericks for free. I wasn’t really sure how this would go because I had only been using the Mac for less than a week but it was very easy! I don’t know if I would have had such luck doing that on Windows. One website that has really helped me learn how to use the mac is called AppleVis. It’s a website ran by blind people and it’s all about using Apple products. So far my experience using the Mac has been really great! I never thought I’d have one because they’re really expensive. I was lucky enough to get one through my uncle who had a few extra that his job had ordered and didn't need so he gave one to me!
